The innovative tape technology of Alesis A-Dat had a revolutionary effect on the whole music industry in the early 90s. Suddenly amateur musicians were able to use digital recording as well as the well-paid artists.

The A-Dat uses a S-VHS video tape to record eight digital tracks; linking two A-Dats results in 16 tracks, and so on ... it has even become very easy to exchange tapes this way ... much easier than in the days of analog 1/2'' or 1'' multi-track-tapes.

Today there are more possibilities to record digital music. Hard disk recorders, the TASCAM system and others are probably doing the same thing, but this site is especially for you, the A-Dat owners worldwide !

Working in my own home studio I often detected difficulties in finding the right musicians. A lead guitar was needed, a singer, or whatever.
